Man is a social animal. We as humans are greatly affected by people around us. The success we achieve in life is also greatly dependent upon all the people around us. Besides the exception of a few people who achieve success on their own, all of us are dependent on each other in one way or another to achieve our goals and objectives. However, it is very difficult in life to find people who will help you achieve your goals. A lot of people we encounter are either heart breakers or candle blowers.
There is no denying the fact that destiny has a big role in bringing supportive people to you, but once those people are around you, then it’s up to you how you identify and differentiate them from others. Below, I shall give you an outline of the ways in which you can identify these supportive people around you.
Good Listener- One of the primary traits of people who support you in your road towards your dream objective is that they will all be good listeners. They won’t always go about telling and advising you on what to do and what not to. On the contrary, the supportive will always listen to you first, give an ear to what you have to say, and will react according to the situation. Like my mother, who before my resolution of committing suicide, listened to what I had to say, and listened only. I often wonder, if on that day she hadn’t listened and went on criticizing me or had not made me realize my potential, then surely I would have done something terrible. So, whoever is around you and listens when you are facing some challenging situation, then mark the person as someone you can count on and who can support you in the course towards your goal.
Helper- the other trait of supportive people is that they are not merely friends of words; rather they are those who help you in need. In the course of life, you will find many people who would be there with you when all is merry and wonderful, but as soon as the circumstances change, these namesake friends will also turn their back on you. The one who sticks with you and helps you in difficult situations, stands by you in a calamity is the only true person you need in the course of success. The rest are just people who associate themselves with you merely for profit.
Educator- When you are in a situation where you need advice, or have committed some wrong doing and need someone to correct you, then the supportive people would always correct you by educating and not by criticizing. Like my Philosophy professor in Cegep who did not just teach us, he also educated us. So, the people who are there for you in your difficult times, will guide you on what to do in such situations and won’t say “I told you so…”
In short, if someone is around you who listens to you when you want to pour your heart out, is there for you in times of need, and educates you on your flaws, then that is the person who will assist you in achieving your goals and objectives and help you win the race of your life.
